Posted by RoyalcowI have been a fan of the rhythm-based music games since I first played Guitar Hero. It was right around the time I started at NI and my buddy Tom tipped me off that GH was something I just had to try. Dave, Slaughter and I all went in on the purchase, and it was all down hill from there. I don't think any one of us got the proper amount of sleep for the next week or so as we tried to beat the game on Medium, then Hard, and finally Expert. Good thing there was plenty of Sparks. Since then I have come to grips with my GH ability, which I classify at just at pretty good (mostly because my fiance is much better at it than I am), but I remain dedicated to my support of Guitar Hero. I even dressed up like characters from Guitar Hero for Halloween last year (see evidence to below, bonus points if you can guess which characters).
When Rock Band came out I didn't jump on the bandwagon as quickly. In fact I still haven't purchased the game, however I did get Guitar Hero Aerosmith (which I have beaten and enjoyed). I think the hesitation came mostly from not wanting to buy the drums, which I had heard were not to snuff terms of quality. Plus there are always more games than I have the money for. In any case, that was the uneasy state of affairs from the two competing guitar rhythm games from my stand point. That is until I heard about Guitar Hero 4 (World Tour) and Rock Band 2.

So now I have two different full band simulation games coming out in a few weeks. So which one do I get? Rock Band comes out first, but GH looks like it has better quality instruments. That's where you Hop Ons come in. Let me know in the comments.

GHWT only has better instruments compared to RB1, but not Rock Band 2.
You really can't beat the fact that the developers of Rock Band were the same who made Guitar Hero 1&2, which Activision is currently bleeding dry.
Also, if you really want the best music game, you need to consider the best songs. Not just the songs on the disk, but the downloadable songs. All of the RB1 DLC will work with Rock Band 2, and most of the RB1 Disk songs will transfer, too. Grab yourself a used copy and double the songs!
Did you also hear the announcement of Foo Fighters and Red Hot Chili Pepper full albums on Rock Band? I thought not.
That picture is awesome. Pure, awesome.
Stolee said it all. If you're considering one or the other, buy RB2, rent GH:WT and use the RB2 periphials.
RB 2 soundtrack > GH soundtrack.
@stolee/wesley
Good comments guys. When it comes down to it, yes you are correct the soundtrack seems better for RB2, but I remain unconvinced that the peripherals included with RB are going to be the quality that should be present in GH. Purely hardware in this case. If you remember the hardware part of the split went to GH and the software went to RB.
Aside from that, when I have played RB previously I wasn't impressed with the guitars. I just liked the feel of the GH guitars better. Could be pure preference at this point. At least Microsoft and Sony came out to say that peripherals will work across games.
You could always use a GHIII/Aerosmith controller for your guitar, especially if you buy the game-only version of Rock Band 2 and get a drum kit separately.
@stolee
Now you are talking. That's a good suggestion. I might as well start saving. I did the math for the RB set at one time and it ended up being only 10 dollars more expensive to get the kit rather than the stand-alone game, mic, and drum kit. Still not a bad idea.
RB2 for the win. I too did not join the Rock Band group at first, until I played it all weekend Memorial Day at Pease's place. Then I bought it and the downloadable content is sick.
Plus I was never great at Guitar Hero because its all about trying to make it really hard. With Rock Band its more like the Wii, just trying to be fun and great for multiplayer at a party.
Also, since everyone talked about how BA they were at GH on Expert (I'm looking at you Staab) I had to have some way to make myself seem better than people that could play Bark at the Moon on Expert. 3 words "Singing And Playing". I've pretty much mastered singing on expert and playing on expert separately I've now begun getting awesome at doing both on expert at the same time. I already had a mic stand from recording The Trigger Man so it was really easy to do both. Only problem is, I have to know the lyrics already.
But so far I can do any song by The Who (Won't Get Fooled Again is a lot of fun) and most other songs I've known for years. My favorite is Coheed and Cambria - Welcome Home though.
Anyway, I'll be getting both games, no periphs, but RB2 > GHWT IMO.
Hmm....well I guess in that case, which one has better songs?? Lol! That's an amazing picture, and I already know who you are :D
I work for Stacker 2 and they're having a contest right now to design a t-shirt for 6 Hour Power, and the winner gets either an Xbox 360 or a PS3 (their choice), a year's supply of 6HP, and tons of other stuff!
You can check it out here: http://www.brickfish.com/Entertainment/Stacker2?tab=overview
Let me know if you decide to enter, I'll go and vote for ya ;)
Hope I didn't overstep my bounds here!

I had heard from a few people that Rock Band Expert wasn't as hard as Guitar Hero Expert. Save the drums, but I hear the drums are hard anyway. Obviously the DLC for RB is a huge draw.
@elle
I do appreciate at least some relevance to the post in the comments, but I'm not interested. Not much of a designer myself.
I'd say that Elle's t-shirt design comment was directed at me, but apparently she (he? Elle is a girl's name right?) didn't see the final score for my Dr. Horrible submission at Threadless.
Also I'm fairly certain a years supply of 6 Hour Power would kill me.
@D Wheezy
Well her info is available above. Go nuts. Also, maybe the 6HP is what you need.
These all information which you can share is really very great. I was never great at Guitar Hero because its all about trying to make it really hard. With Rock Band its more like the Wii, just trying to be fun and great for multiplayer at a party.
These is one of the great to share with us. I was never great at Guitar Hero because its all about trying to make it really hard. These all are really great to share with us.
This information is all that you can share is high. I've never been on Guitar Hero because its trying to do much damage. Rock Band with its more like the Wii, trying to be funny and great for multiple players at a party.
