Posted by RoyalcowWow Ross has been on a tear here lately, which of course means I need to stop being lazy and get more posts up. In any case, I did get to see Quantum of Solace this weekend so that gives me some good material. I know I won't be convincing people to go see it since everyone and their mom will anyway, but in case you have been living under a rock for the past four months here is the trailer.
I was expected a sequel to Casino Royale. After a few lack luster Bond movies, I was really impressed with Daniel Craig's first Bond outing. So I was hoping for more of the same. Did it deliver? Mostly.
I think Daniel Craig is really a great actor (Layer Cake is awesome BTW) and all around it was a well-acted movie. What I was somewhat disappointed in was the action scenes (the first movie set that bar so high). While I didn't think they lacked awesome-ocity, they tried to make sure you knew that Also no crap after credits for this one, but there was a promise that "James Bond will return". Personally I look forward to seeing Craig back as Bond.

I too enjoyed Quantum of Solace, but then again I like most movies. And I really like Bond movies. I think this may have been the worst we've seen out of the Brosnan/Craig era. I can't say that for sure since it's been a long time since I've seen Golden Eye. That movie gets points though since it inspired one of the best video games ever.
Also I was glad to see the girls back in the opening credits, although Casino Royale's opener was pretty awesome without them.
Wow. You really think this is the worst than the last few Brosnan movies? Die Another Day and The World is Not Enough were pretty crappy. Denise Richards really? Goldeneye was certainly the best of the Brosnan era, but I'm not sure how it compares with Quantum.
If I were to rank the top three of the Brosnan/Craig era, I would have to go with:
1. Casino Royale
2. Goldeneye
3. Quantum of Solace
My rankings (without having seen Quantum of Solace yet (I saw Role Models instead)):
1) Casino Royale
2) GoldenEye (best Bond video game ever)
3) Die Another Day
4) Tomorrow Never Dies (featuring Teri Hatcher cashing in on her Lois and Clark days)
5) The World is Not Enough (easily the worst of these 5)
There's no way that QoS is worse that The World is Not Enough or Tomorrow Never Dies...
OK, QoS is better than The World is not Enough. Don't get me wrong, I still thoroughly enjoyed this movie. Here are my gripes-
Action scenes were way below par for a bond movie. Sometimes I'm OK with the shaky cam, but I felt like it ruined the action sequences.
The plot was way too simple, felt like a set up for the next Bond movie.
I did think Daniel Craig was awesome, and has proved himself as the next Bond (I realize he achieved this in Casino Royale). I hope he sticks around for a while.
I'd like to see someone else in the Director's chair, maybe get Martin Campbell back.
So you thought that the shakey cam ruined the action sequences, making them below par. I just wanted to make sure since I could see that. There were still some awesome action sequences though in my opinion. I do think that getting Martin back would be a good step.
Shaky cam does not equal bad action sequences. I think the Bourne movies used it well.
I felt like in this movie though they were trying to hide the fact that the action scenes weren't as good.
Opening car chase was pretty bad for an opening as far as Bond openings go.
The scaffolding actions sequence was pretty sweet, and I felt like it would have been awesome had there not been so many close up shaky cam shots and instead we got a better idea for the space of the scene and how things were actually going down.
