Family Time = Movie Time

Posted by MajorLB

I spent last weekend with my family in a small town in Georgia. Family time means movie time. Every holiday is celebrated by going to a movie. Christmas. Easter. Thanksgiving. Being in a rural area with bad weather even more movies happened than usual. Saturday matinee my mom chose the movie Death Race and I quite enjoyed it. You have to like action movies and not mind a bit of the shaky cam. This didn't hurt either:

Actually the still looks like a little creepy, but the moving shot is sooo impressive.

Then we watched King of California which is a cute little indie with Evan Rachel Wood who I'm oddly fascinated with, but lets not get into that. Lastly on Sunday we went to see Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2. It was cute, but it also gives me an excuse to embed this video:

I also recently (without the family) watched Hugo Pool - random random movie. I was thoroughly amused by Robert Downey Jr. though. How can you watch the below clip and not be at least a little interested to see what the hell the movie is about:

Back to my point of this whole post. Experiences are always a little different in Georgia. The highlight of the moviegoing experience (besides the water raining down in the theater during death race) was this trailer:

At first, I'm thinking okay cute little romantic drama movie. Wait, is that Kirk Cameron. It is! Oh man that, that means...this is ...probably...oh yeah...totally a religious movie. Man I love Kirk Cameron. Way to go all born again Christian, marry your TV girlfriend, have 6 kids, make crazy religious sermon dvds about how hell should be the motivation to believe in God and then work your way back into the hearts and minds of the public as a firefighter.

I miss the Seavers.

P.S. To continue my random thoughts. Alan Thicke (Mr. Seaver) spawned this guy: I was gonna talk about Robin Thicke and his hot wife but youtube disabled embedding for his videos so I won't bother. Instead, here is the trailer for Babylon AD which is supposed to be kinda a mess and has no PR but I'm a sucker for Vin Diesel (I will totally see Fast Furious 4) and it's the same genre as Death Race which started off this whole rambling post written over several days:

What the Hell Court System

Posted by MajorLB

I mostly try to not think too hard (or at all) about politics or the government. I feel like it's generally accepted that there are things broken in the current system. The courts are part of the current system. Luckily for all of us that might be confused about the court system the National Center for State Courts has provided us with a sweet comic book to help clear up our major concerns: pirating and eminent domain. It's a pdf, but you should really open it and check it out.

Seriously, what the hell was the point of that thing? I read the whole comic portion and don't know what they were trying to tell me. Pirating is stealing but don't worry you'll just do some community service? The city will try to screw you over but the courts always dispense justice that will make you not lose your house? Who the hell was this little piece of artwork aimed at?

How about those court cases would never happen? What a waste of time, money and effort for the NCSC.

Guitar Hero World Tour vs Rock Band 2

Posted by Royalcow

I have been a fan of the rhythm-based music games since I first played Guitar Hero. It was right around the time I started at NI and my buddy Tom tipped me off that GH was something I just had to try. Dave, Slaughter and I all went in on the purchase, and it was all down hill from there. I don't think any one of us got the proper amount of sleep for the next week or so as we tried to beat the game on Medium, then Hard, and finally Expert. Good thing there was plenty of Sparks. Since then I have come to grips with my GH ability, which I classify at just at pretty good (mostly because my fiance is much better at it than I am), but I remain dedicated to my support of Guitar Hero. I even dressed up like characters from Guitar Hero for Halloween last year (see evidence to below, bonus points if you can guess which characters).

When Rock Band came out I didn't jump on the bandwagon as quickly. In fact I still haven't purchased the game, however I did get Guitar Hero Aerosmith (which I have beaten and enjoyed). I think the hesitation came mostly from not wanting to buy the drums, which I had heard were not to snuff terms of quality. Plus there are always more games than I have the money for. In any case, that was the uneasy state of affairs from the two competing guitar rhythm games from my stand point. That is until I heard about Guitar Hero 4 (World Tour) and Rock Band 2.

So now I have two different full band simulation games coming out in a few weeks. So which one do I get? Rock Band comes out first, but GH looks like it has better quality instruments. That's where you Hop Ons come in. Let me know in the comments.

Awesome Douchebaggery [Nickelback Attack]

Posted by Double M

Here's something you may not know about me: I have an MBA. I decided after 4 years of college that I wasn't ready to enter the real world yet, and, instead of getting a whole new degree like Wheezy or deciding to become unemployed like Ross, I decided to take a one year extension and pick up a graduate degree.

To be honest, it was probably my favorite year of college. The classes only went from 4-7, so my nights were open for partying and it turns out the classes were pretty easy. It got to the point that I would leave classes asap because they were boring. I'm pretty sure I came across as a huge douche to a lot of the other people in the class.

Fortunately, I wasn't even close to the biggest d-bag in my classes. For some reason a lot of people getting their MBA with me thought they were hot shots. They would go sit in the front row and try to answer every question - I really just wanted to punch them for making my classes go longer. In any case, I imagine this is how some of their interview went after they graduated.

A brief aside: along with having an MBA, I'm also suffer from minor dyslexia. I have learned how to deal with it, but every once in a while it jumps out and grabs me. For instance, I once went to a conference sponsored by Deloitte and Touche (relevant because of the video) but every time I saw that name I read Toilet and Douche. It stuck with me and now every time I see Deloitte, I actually think Toilet (And Douche). And now you will too.

Anyway, while I'm on the topic of douchebaggery, I'd like to bring up Nickelback. For some reason some people in my office have been singing Creed and Nickelback lately. While my coworkers make me laugh, those bands are annoying. And douchebags for making songs like Photograph. Fortunately, we have some random guys to remake annoying songs like that. And they have made me laugh. A lot (it's a College Humor video so you might have to click through to see it - but you really, really should).

That song will never be the same - and that's a good thing.

If You Wanted To See the Williams Sisters Licking Stuff, Now is Your Chance

Posted by Double M

Last January, Oreo came up with an awesome commercial idea: the Double Stuff Racing League. Well, the idea may have just been ok, but the theme song was awesome.

That song reminds me of Dragonforce for some reason. Tonight I am going to go download the MP3 of that song.I posted about the DSRL on my old blog and someone was nice enough to post the lyrics in the comments. They are at the end of this post if you are interested.

Well, the DSRL is back this time with the Williams sisters. It made me laugh and since I love the theme song so much I couldn't resist posting.

Here are the DSRL theme song lyrics:
its the league of the future
for mighty and the bold
legends will be made
once the fever takes hold

enter the arena
battle for the crown
who will be the victor
who's the best around

More Olympic Commercial Greatness [The Office]

Posted by Double M

Do you miss the Olympics yet? You may or may not know they ended last night. Well, just in case you do miss them, here are some awesome Olympics/The Office promos that you may have missed. I showed you the slap face commercial earlier - these are pretty much in the same vein.

The first commercial is Dwight throwing a pencil javelin.

The second commercial is probably my favorite commercial of this set. In this commercial, Dwight is listing off all of the sports he would include in the "Centathalon" (that would be 100 sports).

I saved this clip for last because it nails Michael Scott in 20 seconds. If you haven't ever watched The Office, this is all you need to know about Michael. Side note: sand volleyball was my second favorite thing to watch in these Olympics behind men's basketball.

Now that the Olympics is over, I am really looking forward to the return of fall TV.

Have a good week.

Miley Cyrus is the New Avril

Posted by Double M

I can't wait until the Olympics are over. It's not that I don't love them - I do - it's that they are destroying my life. I have been watching an excessive amount of the overnight Olympic coverage. At no point during this week did I go to bed before 2am. It's a beat down.

But it's also very exciting. There's been a lot of good stuff including beach volleyball, basketball, swimming, and even gymnastics.

Here's the thing that's crazy about gymnastics - a lot of those girls are young. Like under 18 young. And with what their wearing I'm pretty sure there's some pedophiles that go crazy during that stuff. To be fair, most of the intermist seemed to go crazy for things that did not concern underage girls. The main thing is Alicia Sacramone (that's a blog roll, so click it) the 20-year-old gymnast that cost America the gold. Some people find her attractive - I'd go with 616, and that might be high. I don't feel bad rating her because she's over 20 - there's no guilt in that. I would feel guilty rating He Kexin, a Chinese gymnast who apparently illegally competed underage. She is only 14!

Fortunately, for some reason or another, no one seems to be trying to rate her. And that's a good thing. Although, it's probably not because she's underage. We are pretty good at not caring if a chick is of age before we start talking about her hotness (see examples: The Olsen Twins, Hilary Duff). There are whole websites dedicated to this (that's SFW (safe for work)).

And now there's a new girl that people have been "stalking" - Miley Cyrus. Some dude even hacked her cell phone to find some racy pictures she had taken. I'm not gonna link to them because I'm pretty sure I would immediately regret it because I'm gonna say it borders on child porn.

And that brings me to the topic of today's post (you don't think I'm about to waste a Friday post talking about child porn did you?) - I think Miley Cyrus has become the new Avril Lavigne.

I used to love Avril (and I talked about her a lot on my old blog). There was something about Complicated, Sk8r Boi and I'm with You. If you listened to pop radio, you knew those songs, even if you didn't like Avril. At one point, I went as far as to declare Avril my psyche up music - just ask Ross.

In any case, something happened to Avril, I'm not sure what, but I think it started with this song, which somehow gets even more annoying in other languages. Seriously, she recorded it in like 8 languages - you can watch/hear it on the previous link. It also contains the image on the left which never ceases to make me laugh (yeah, I know, it's juvenile - but you should expect that from me by now).

Since that video it's been a continuous downward spiral for Avril. She dyed her hair blond, tried to become pop, and lost a lot of her fake punkish appeal. Add all that to the fact that she's Canadian and on a short leash to begin with and you can already guess what happened. She's off the grid now, but just before that, she decided to jump off a cliff and do a MadTV (the homeless man's version of SNL) episode. Here's a clip from the show that makes my head hurt.

Seriously, what kind of Chewbacca impression is that - that's not even close. But I digress. With Avril falling off the face of the earth, someone else had to step into her place with kinda annoying but ultimately catchy pop music - and that person is Miley Cyrus. I thought she might have a one-hit thing going with See You Again, but she came back with another kinda catchy song with 7 things.

Look, I am in no way encouraging you to go buy her music, all I'm telling you is that her CD is all the same kinda catchy pop stuff that you'll start to like if you hear it more than twice. And then you'll know the lyrics. And then you'll sing the lyrics. And suddenly you'll realize that your friends know the lyrics. And then you'll get drunk and sing them at a party. And now you have the new Avril. I'm just saying.

In any case, as a thank you for making it through a long ass, old school style post. Here's an unrelated video that should take you into the weekend.

Have a good weekend.

Afternoon Ninja Attack

Posted by Double M

A brief aside before today's post. There's one thing you should know about me - I love ninjas. I'm assuming my love for ninjas started with the Ninja Gaiden, pushed through Power Rangers (you know the Pink Ranger was hot), and for some reason just never really dissipated. Fortunately, there are some other people on the webernets, including a few on this blog, that share the same feelings. As such, I will sporadically post about ninjas for no apparent reason. On to the post.

I found the most ridiculous video a couple of months ago. And then it got lost in the intermist. Luckily, the magical video appeared in front of me yesterday again, and now I'm bringing it to you without delay. I'm pretty sure this movie inspired/is inspired by something from a TMNT video game.

I think that guy is in a souped up golf cart. Answer me this one question: why are those ninjas on skates? They were in a van chasing a golf cart. Why in the hell would they get out of the car to chase the dude in a car while on skates? I guess that's 2 questions. I would ask a third - how can the ninjas keep up on skates - but it's clear that hombre is in a golf cart.

Why I Like Pineapple Express

Posted by Royalcow

So Pineapple Express has already gotten a mention in the comments of MM's After Dark post with mediocre review from both MM and Wheezy, but I thought I would do an official review type thingy as an actual post. First the trailer for your viewing pleasure:

As I covered in my Dark Knight post, my movie going experience is all about expectations. If you have seen the trailer above you have a pretty good idea what the movie is going to be about and most of the actual plot that takes place. That isn't why you would want to go see Pineapple Express. You want to go see for one of two reasons:

  1. You saw Superbad and thought it was the funniest movie of last year and plan on seeing anything by the Apatow crew from now on.

  2. You are high.

I was firmly in the first category. I knew to expect a plot based around pot (that rhymes) and Seth Rogen. What I was impressed by was James Franco really stealing the show as the love-able dealer. It's good to see him play a character that isn't EmoGreen Goblin. However, what I liked most about the movie was the fight scenes. Yes fight scenes. The only way I can describe it is imagine a group of people with no fighting experience and make them all fight as awkwardly possible. So basically middle school.

I couldn't resist posting that picture. Anyway, I enjoyed the movie and my expectations of it were firmly met. Yes it wasn't Superbad, but it was still worth my time and possibly yours. Oh and no crap after credits. Enjoy!

Hurricane Tropical Storm Fay

Posted by Wheezy

Hey kids. Wheezy here.

Well, I'm down in Florida, about to brave the wonder of nature that is Tropical Storm Fay. This is the second day of school for most public schools here in Florida, and already they get a vacation. I hope yesterday's syllabus run downs can hold them over until classes begin again.

School has also been canceled for me, and many of the area businesses shut down in anticipation of the upcoming torrent of rain and wind. How are thing so far you might ask?

According to Wunderground.com - current conditions include rain and 2 mph winds. According to my own eyes, I would categorize it as 'drizzle'.

Thusfar, there's not a whole lot to worry about. Fay does not scare me (at least not yet). Fey, on the other hand, is a whole different breed of terror.

I guess I'll have to just stay inside and watch Hulu all day. Shucks.

Unrelated to the current weather situation, but highly related to 30 Rock hilariousness, I bring you another clip to fill the void of your work day.

I'll let you know if things get crazy down here. Enjoy your non-life-threatening day.

Bob Saget Raped and Killed a Girl

Posted by Double M

I just finished watching Bob Saget's Roast on Comedy Central. To be honest, I'm not sure how they couldn't get better comedians for Bob Saget - it's Bob f-ing Saget. Side note: Does Comedy Central just do an annual rost of B-C list celebs? Didn't they just do Pamela Anderson last year? In any case, there were a few funny lines (summarized here), but the funniest comedian was Gilbert Gottfried (exercise caution on the language here).

The most disappointing comedian was Norm Macdonald (his part is linked on his name). He was ok but he clearly was doing a skit that was only moderately funny. To be fair, it kinda gets funnier as the "skit" moves along.

In any case, the part that caught me off guard was the clips from a Bob Saget rap video. I guess it was from the Jamie Kennedy Experience (which I never watched), but it made me laugh. NSFW language in this thing.

In any case, in honor of Saget, here's a funny unrelated video that actually happened. It features a cat eating spaghetti, which just doesn't make sense.

Monday is Hammer Time [Monday Night Football]

Posted by Double M

Turns out I love football. My job used to require me to watch football film all day and now I just make sure that I keep teams happy. All-in-all, it's a pretty sweet gig. In any case, the only thing that makes football better for me is having a stake in it. It can be either be that I'm watching one of my teams or that I have an alternative stake in the game - and since I don't like to bet on football, fantasy football is a great alternative. Because I play in a few leagues, I will almost always have a legitimate interest in the outcome of just about every game.

But I digress. One of the best parts about football is Monday Night Football. MNF is great because I can sit down and burn away a few hours while still getting something accomplished (and to be honest, some of my best posts have been written during MNF). Well, ESPN has MNF and they definitely promote the shit out of it. In fact, their promos for this year just started running last week. You might have missed them because you don't watch ESPN, or, like me, you have been obsessed with the Olympics. Fortunately, for you, I've included a video with the 2 commercials I've seen below. They are actually pretty funny.

After ESPN called MC Hammer and said we want to use you in a commercial, how long do you think it took him to respond? 1 second? .1 seconds? Not very long I guarantee you that.

In any case, since I'm showing you a couple ESPN commercials, here's a couple good ESPN commercials that always makes me laugh. The first came out right after ESPN made ESPN Deportes.

The second isn't really for ESPN (it's for ESPN magazine) but I can't resist posting it. It may be my top 5 favorite commercials all time.

Have a good week.

After Dark: Boats and Pros [Step Brothers]

Posted by Double M

Have you seen Step Brothers yet? I gave you three weeks before I decided to post about it. I'm going to be honest, that was the best Will Ferrell movie since Anchorman. It was definitely funnier than Pineapple Express and What Happens in Vegas.

In any case, without spoiling the movie, at one point there Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly make a rap music video together called Boats and Hoes. Since I love hip-hop and this movie, I've decided to share it with you. This is the only time you get to see it all as well. Normally I would put this in a normal post but there is a lot of crude language here. Fortunately, it's the weekend and you should be good to go.

Hip-Hop in Kids Shows

Posted by Double M

It's Friday at 2am and I realized that I haven't posted anything yet. This is mainly the fault of the Olympics (women's gymnastics/sand volleyball/softball are all memorizing for me). Fortunately for you, I've got a back-up plan ready to go for some random day. Today's topic: hip-hop in kids shows. These videos aren't actually hip-hop in the shows, but, instead, are genius music videos created by dubbing hip-hop music over kids show images.

For instance, the first one is the song "Ante Up" with Bert & Ernie from Sesame Street. It's a "hardcore" rap song, so exercise caution on the lyrics. This is actually a very well done video.

That thing makes me laugh every time - partly because it's funny to see Bert and Ernie kick hip-hop and partly because the video is so well done.

Now that you have a feel for it, here's a video of the G.I. Joe villains singing "Get Money" by Junior Mafia (which was basically Biggie's version of G-Unit). As you can imagine, there are some swears in this video.

The final video of today features one of my favorite cartoons growing up - Thundercats. This video features Ludacris' song "What's Your Fantasy" (something that should get you in the mood for some Friday partying). It's a full song dub, but what else do you have to do on a Friday?

Side note: I just realized that this is post #50. I hope that all of you hop-ons have enjoyed the ride thus far - there's plenty more to come.

Have a good weekend.

Going Back to Philly

Posted by Double M

Sorry about the lack of posting from me this week - it turns out that the Olympics are destroying my life (side note: I'm pretty sure that women's gymnastics increases the number of creeper dudes on a per minute basis. Chris Hansen and his crew could probably have pulled in 200-300% more people than normal immediately after that).

Anyway, when the Olympics are over, a lot of good fall TV is about to start. One of the most underrated shows on TV today (and one of the main reasons I've decided to keep cable (more on that later)(double parentheses!)) is It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. It can be kinda crude at times, but basically it reminds me of Seinfeld mixed with South Park - so I laugh a lot.

The Sunny crew just released the promo for season 4. It's a hip-hop video (something else I love) and anyone that has seen the show before will enjoy several of the running jokes that are shown in the video.

If you haven't seen Sunny before, yes, you saw correctly, that is Danny DeVito - he is one of the main characters on the show. To be honest, it was his role in the promo for season 3 that made me want to watch the show. That promo, while teaching me nothing about the actual show, still makes me laugh today. In fact, if you want to get a feel for Sunny in 3 minutes, this is a way to do it and I've decided to include it below.

Now I know some of you may be saying, "This is season 4 of the show. I can't start watching now because I'll be too far behind." To that I have 2 things to say:
1) No you won't because while there may be some running jokes in Sunny, each episode is distinct and you could just pick it up tomorrow and laugh.
2) Through the magic of Hulu (have you heard of that site before?) you can watch all of the episodes online.

So now you have no excuse but to watch the show. Speaking of excuses, talking about Sunny gives me the excuse to post my favorite clip from the show - the Night Man song. The group decides to form a band and this is their first practice:

Boobies + Star Wars = Soulcalibur 4

Posted by Royalcow

One of the reasons I was brought in on IR was to do some posts about video games since I do tend to play quite a few. Most of the other guys here do have at least a Nintendo DS, and some even have a Wii, but they aren't as interested as I am I suppose. Recently a game came out that I was very excited about so here goes my inaugural video game post about ...(drum roll here)... Soul. Calibur. Four!

Many a drunken night has been spent playing SC2, which made me very excited to try out the newest entry in the Soul Calibur series. I had basically played the crap out of SC2 when that came out on the PS2 and Gamecube. SC3 came and went, but the character creation stuff really kind of fell flat and it didn't get all that much play time. Enter SC4.

For those of you who don't know, Soul Calibur is a weapons-based fighting game series which has been around on consoles since 1999 and really made a name for itself as a fighting game with great mechanics (and basically the reason to buy a Dreamcast). It also was recognized as featuring female fighters with ridiculously sized boobs and magic clothes that nipples never slipped from (see the artist's rendering of Ivy to the right).

One of the most exciting things about the newest version is being able to play online. After playing online on Xbox Live it was easy to tell that the gameplay was good, but the lobby system and matchmaking really needs a bit of work. By default you get placed into a lobby with four other players. I don't know if the hosts that I was playing with were sore-winners or -losers, but the first four matches ended with the session being terminated when the host left the session after his match. It was quite frustrating. I ended up needing to host my own session with only two people in it. Oh and I have yet to be able to get into a ranked match.

The character creation aspect of the game has really come a long way from SC3 as well. Instead of designing your person from scratch you start from another existing character, which makes things much easier. Of course the first thing I had to do was create a big boobed female pirate based off Cervantes (shown to the left).

A welcome tweak that I felt was a long time coming was that they seemed to have scaled back the character speed and movements from previous versions. The fast characters are fast and the slow characters are much slower than the previous incarnation. Siegfried was way overpowered in SC3 since he seemed just as fast as Taki. What's the use of ninja weapons, when you can just bash someone in with a ginormous sword, all other things being equal.

Oh right the Star Wars stuff. The game comes with Yoda (Xbox 360) or Darth Vader (PS3) as well as Vader's Apprentice (I HATE fighting the Apprentice, but can't wait to learn him). I really didn't like playing with Yoda (one of those small characters that is impossible to hit with a high attack), but the gameplay footage I have seen of Vader looks pretty impressive. Yes a lightsaber should easily slice through any of the weapons in this game, but I think we can look past canon and just enjoy some Star Wars ass-kicking.

So who do I play with? I can hold my own pretty well with Kilik (who I was nearly unbeatable with in SC2) and Cervantes (I just couldn't resist an undead pirate with two swords, one which has a gun in it) with some Taki and Talim (fast button masking characters) thrown in there for good measure.

There you have it Hops Ons . I think SC4 is a solid game, and if you liked the first few, or just like fighting games, I would say it's worth picking up. Hit up the comments with any thoughts, or other fond memories of Soul Calibur.

All Those Moments - Now in a Rap

Posted by MajorLB

To be honest I've had a lot of awkward moments in my life. A LOT. Luckily three white guys have taken these moments and strung them together in a continuous awkward sequence they call a rap song. I realize this is more Double M's territory, so hopefully this isn't well known and I'm just way out of the loop. Because that would be awkward...

Hat tip to allisunshine.

The Olympics are upon us

Posted by Ross

In Double M's post yesterday I realize most of you are probably more excited by The Office coming back than the Olympics returning. In past years I've found myself a lot more interested in the Olympics. I think part of it is that it's such a shitty country that I already give far too much business to. (Sorry to our Chinese readers potential readers if that comment gets our blog censored in China) Regardless I found this Olympic Medal Count Map to be pretty cool. Here's a picture of the 2004 results.

It's even got a nifty slider. It reminded me of Gapminder, which Google acquired some time ago. It's an awesome interactive graphing software that has been turned into a web app. It can be used to track all sorts of global trends against economic, social, health and regional variables.
Hans Rosling has a pretty interesting TED Talk demonstrating this software. I won't embed the video as it's about 20 minutes, but it's worth the watch if you've got the time and you're into that kind of thing. Here's the link. And the follow up.

I'm going to make an effort to make a post with some sort of substance for every one of Royal Cow's lolcats. This can only last so long because in the realm of the internet:

# of LOLCats > Amount of information on the Internet

I'm pretty sure this is scientific fact. A simple GIS yields some astounding results showing the breadth of topics that lolcats have covered.

Slap Face [The Office is Back!]

Posted by Double M

The Olympics are ruining my life. I staid up until 3:45 am watching Badminton last night for no apparent reason. Of course, because I have ADD, this limits me from posting. Fortunately, I saw one of the best commercials all time and now I'm bringing it to you. It's a promo for The Office (which is also on NBC) and so it is Olympic themed.

Ah, Slap Face. I'm gonna try that at work today. Hopefully that gives you a good start to the week.

Oh, Twitter. I like you. I might even really like you, but just when I think we're getting close...fail whale.

Apparently I'm not the only one feeling a little let down. This is a pretty standard internet video with changing captions, but I thought it was well done by TechCrunch:

The great thing about this video is I really don't feel bad watching stuff like this at work because it's sorta related to my job in a very distant way. Well, Hitler videos might be stretching it a bit.

Crazy like a FOX

Posted by Wheezy

As Andy has mentioned a few times, I have a certain affinity for preaching about the wonder that is Hulu. For those who haven't heard, Hulu is an online television website, which legitimately hosts TV shows and movies from the past as well as today, using extremely limited commercial advertising to make some money in the process.

Because of this, I can enjoy all three seasons of Arrested Development via the internet. True, I own all three seasons on DVD anyway, but with this easy-anywhere- access I can even enjoy them on my neighbor's iPhone. What? You haven't watched Arrested Development?

That's probably because the geniuses at FOX canceled it after a mere 3 (abridged) seasons. But now you have no excuse. Here is just one of the many many reasons to watch.

We've also talked quite a bit on this blog about Dr. Horrible, even embedded a Hulu version in one of the posts. Well the guy behind that was a fella by the name of Joss Whedon. Whedon has a fairly rabid fan following, rare for a screen writer, in part because of his contribution to our world in the way of Buffy the Vampire Slayer (the TV show, not the movie). He also was part of the team who wrote the screenplay for Toy Story, so you know I'm a fan.

In addition to those gems, Joss Whedon wrote a little show called Firefly, which ran on FOX for about 14 episodes before it too, like Arrested Development, was canceled. I've heard it described as a Sci-Fi western, but much like Battlestar this show is less about Sci-Fi technological coolness and more about the characters. The time and setting is merely the chocolate cookie sandwiching to the actual drama and humor that is the creamy delicious center. Here's a taste.

The entire series is also available on Hulu, so go check it out before FOX somehow takes it away from us again.

I guess these introductions to amazing shows are somewhat bittersweet, seeing as how they've been canceled. But as they say, better to have loved and lost...

Man I hate FOX.

Happy Birthday Double M

Posted by Royalcow

So Wheezy already covered it pretty well, but I wanted to add a quick b-day post for MM. I debated about posting the Satan puppet video that I posted for Ross's birthday, but decided a lolcat was in order.

nom nom nom / nooo it are my birthday

'Tis a Time for Celebration

Posted by Wheezy

Today marks one of my favorite holidays (a list which is constantly being threatened by terrorists apparently). I'm speaking, of course, about the birthday celebration of Immediate Regret's very own Double M. Usually I would celebrate this joyous occasion by imbibing till I can't imbibes no more, but since I have to go to school today and I'm told solo inebriation is cause for alarm, I guess I'll just show a couple of videos instead.

This first video is a gift I made found on the internet. It combines my love of manversations, Spider-Man, Batman, animation, and sandwiches, so of course it makes perfect sense as a bday gift for Double M.

This second video is just for Double M. It's kinda personal, so just go ahead and move on to the next website you use to distract from all that work you're supposed to be doing.

Seriously, it's not for you. Move along.

Happy Birthday Chocolate Bear brother.

Me and Brett Favre Are Cool Again

Posted by Double M

One of the best parts of writing at Immediate Regret instead of the Skeet Thrower is that I can focus more on certain things that I didn't talk about a lot before. For instance, today I can talk a lot about sports. If you don't care, just jump straight to the video.

I haven't always been the biggest Brett Favre fan - partly because I just wasn't a Packers fan and partly because I felt like the media gave him handskis underneath the interview table. That said, I didn't dislike him, and I actually enjoyed watching him play. But the retirement stuff over the last few years annoyed me. Look, I get the competitive stuff and I understand wanting to take some time, but it really felt like he wanted the media and the team to fawn over him (again, the handski thing). Furthermore, he was a little bitch about certain things (refusing to mentor Aaron Rodgers!?!) and he was really putting his team in a tough position (again, not being a Packers fan, this didn't really matter to me, but being a fan of better sports, it sucked).

This year, and especially this last month, I felt like he crossed the line. If you don't remember, a month ago Favre started having his family leak information about him returning. When the Packers didn't jump for joy, he had them start leaking inside information about the Packers. I won't recap the entire thing because I'm pretty sure you're all sick of it just like me, but suffice it to say that Favre handled this like a little kid.

That is, until yesterday. He finally understood that he wasn't going to be heading to a division rival (which would be dumb of the Packers to do), he finally began trying to find a decent option elsewhere in the NFL. And what happened? Favre ended up on my favorite NFL team. So, I guess we're cool now.

In celebration of the Jets getting Farve, here's an awesome Favre video (yes, it's from the Packers, but just imagine the dude is in Jets stuff).

Ah yes, nothing like the tunes of Miley Cyrus (more on her soon) to serenade the Favre.

Side note: Unfortunately this means my boy Chad Pennington, a truly good guy, is going to be released/traded today. Hopefully he lands on his feet.

H/T: KSK on the video.

Hulu Quickie

Posted by Royalcow

This will be quick since I need to get back to watching Hulu work. I would usually let Wheezy take care of the Hulu topics, but I wanted to let all the Hop Ons out there know that for a limited time Hulu is streaming HD versions of Lost, Heroes, The Office, 24, and Dr. Horrible (to name a few) without commercials. So what are you waiting for...oh right probably the link. (via Lifehacker)

Time to give up Ali

Okay, when Anderson Cooper, beautiful man that he is, makes fun of you it's time to think about a new profession.

Also, notice he references The Soup. Anderson Cooper just got a lot cooler.

History in the Making

Posted by Ross

Last week was a big week for me. I turned 27, went on an awesome RV roadtrip and reminded myself for the 4th weekend in a row why it's a bad idea to drink for 12+ hours in a day. One day I will learn. But that's not why it was a big weekend. I made a historic achievement. Actually, I only helped with the historic occasion. Yes, I saw The Dark Knight and helped the lastest edition of the Batman franchise on it's way to smashing every box office record out there. Way to go Ross.

If that wasn't enough, Jimmy Kimmel showed me another record I helped break: Exxon just set the record for quarterly profits by a US company. Here's a little video that might make you proud for helping in such an accomplishment as well-

Now, I'm going to avoid getting too political, as this is mostly an entertainment blog, I think (I was told I could write about whatever the hell I wanted, yesterday it was fainting goats, today it's the gas crisis). I'm sure you've heard more than enough on the subject. Neither the Dems nor Republicans show any sign of getting sick of lying to you about what the problems are or who is to blame. No, America is far too stupid to listen to anyone that might have something intelligent to say on the matter. We'd rather point a finger and go on feeling sorry for ourselves. That's why I love this video, although it's funny and is taking a shot at big oil- it points out who the sucker is. We are for being dependent on cars, we are for creating the demand, and we are for not being able to find a better way. However, I think we may finally be adjusting- I don't think I heard any of the 8 people complain about the cost of gas as we were chugging along at 10 miles per gallon or whatever it was.

EDIT- I would like to point out that in miles per gallon per person we beat about 99% of the vehicles on the road that are transporting just one person.

Fainting Goats

So I realize that this video has been around forever and is old news. However, I met someone this weekend that hadn't seen it and it inspired me to share it. In case you haven't seen it- enjoy, and if you have seen it- enjoy it again.

The Cobra Kai's True Weakness: Mr. No Legs

Posted by Double M

Hope your weekend went well. It's Monday and I know a lot of you are probably looking for inspiration to roll through another week. Well, I have something for you. This weekend I saw the most ridiculous kung fu fight scenes all-time. They feature dudes with no legs. Confused? well, just watch this clip.

Nutso, right? I'm just blown away by the no legs dude. To be honest, I'm probably more blown away with the dudes that can't beat up a dude with no legs! How does that happen. Ready to see another one? This one is more ridiculous if that is possible. The next video apparently features a crazy no legged hitman.

I don't even know what to say. I'm blown away. Seriously, the dude has no legs - how can he fight/tread water at the same time? How can you get taken down by him? None of this makes sense.

Have a good weekend.

It's A Blog Roll

Posted by Double M

It's like I have nothing better to do with my life than post on the weekend. Anyway, as you can imagine, here at Immediate Regret, we read a lot of different blogs. One of the ways you can keep up with what we read is to subscribe to our shared feeds (they are linked on the right by our names). The other way you can see what we read is by checking out our blog roll. It's listed down on the right side of the blog. That list is crazy - it is ordered by the most recent posts and will show you the title of the most recent post as well. I have a feeling the list will definitely change over time, so make sure you check it out when you visit Immediate Regret.

And since I don't feel good posting without showing you a video, here's a ridiculous music video from the 80's by the group Asia. If you have ADD you should like this one, otherwise you might poke your eyes out.

After Dark: Inappropriate Rap [FUPA Attack]

Posted by Double M

Hey everybody,

Hope you're enjoying your weekend. If you haven't figured it out yet, I love the webermist. Unfortunately, one of my biggest complaints is the lack of new content generated over the weekend. My solution to this at my old site, was to introduce an intermittent series of posts: the After Dark posts. Most of these posts will be borderline inappropriate but should make you laugh if nothing else. Fortunately, the posts are on the weekend so you shouldn't have to worry about language etc. Besides, Alessandra Ambrosio (right) told me that she thinks this is such a good idea, I should use her picture for my first After Dark post here on Immediate Regret.*

Anyway, the theme of today's After Dark is bad, inappropriate rap. Here's the first video. It's dedicated to Ross' fiance. There is some NSFW language here, but the video itself should be ok if you're at work.

Just for clarification, Ross' fiance does not have a FUPA, she just introduced me to the term/concept a couple years ago. Moving on, right on the heels of the FUPA rap, here's another ridiculous rap video. If the last video was inappropriate, I'm pretty sure this one could be classified as wildly inappropriate. Mainly because this dude is wearing a bad outfit and also his lyrics.

That guy is single-handedly setting back the women's movement, music video production, lyric writing, and fashion all at one time. But he did make me laugh. Thank Terry for that one, ladies and gentlemen. Strangely, that guy reminds me of Juvenille.

* This is false.

Happy Birthday Ross

Posted by Royalcow

Just a quick post to share some Happy Birthday videos for Ross. The first one will probably be in my head the rest of the day.

This next one I can only explain by saying it was on the related links and I really like monkeys (and so does Ross!).

Fellow Hop Ons join me in wishing Ross a Happy Birthday! (people dying everywhere... stupid Satan puppet)

I will feel... Nothing

Posted by Wheezy

Did you, like myself, watch Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog after Royal Cow's post and think to yourself:

"Man, I sure would like a cool shirt that shows my enthusiasm for this unique and odd comedic entry into the American cinematic landscape. But I've already purchased all of the official paraphernalia, and I'd like something a little less... red."

Well inner monologue no more! I have created a sleek, stylish design and submitted it to Threadless where it is currently in the running to become a real, actual shirt. It will be in consideration for seven days while people vote on it from a scale of 1 to 5 (5 being best). You can get to the vote page by clicking below:

I will feel... Nothing. - Threadless, Best T-shirts Ever

So go there and vote! And if you haven't watched Dr. Horrible yet, you can do that on this very blog! (Courtesy of Hulu).

Thanks for voting people!
