Posted by RossDear abc.com,
You suck. I don't want to dwell on how much you suck, so I will briefly tell you why you suck. First and foremost you break one of the most important rules of websites. You make sound without you asking me to. Youtube, liveleak, metacafe, sites like these are the only ones that get a break on this rule. This is because people follow links directly to a video that they expect to make noise. Please note that the main pages of these sites are silent, as every website should be. It's like a speak when spoken to thing. That's just a precursor to the real issue here, it all has to do with watching videos on your site. The following is why your video player sucks.
- It opens in a new window, completely unnecessary
- Fullscreen isn't really fullscreen, that progress bar hangs at the bottom.
- You only work in IE, Firefox and Safari
- The volume control is wonky
- You have to click off the ads to get back to a program you are trying to watch
In short, you are not hulu. Go take a look at hulu.com for an example of how to do things. You're lucky you have Lost.

Seconded
I couldn't agree more. The main reason I'm behind on Lost is because I can't stand watching the old episodes on their hellish website. I therefore don't watch Lost at all and they miss out on showing me ads. It doesn't take a genius to realize you need your content as many places as possible.
Hulu FTW
I found 'Jughead' here, buddy.

The quality wasn't as good as Hulu, but - it's better than my antenna. I'm a Canadian, and ABC.com doesn't like my IP address - so it won't play its shows for me anyhow.
Plus, Lost rules like dinosaurs.
Honestly, I know ABC.com has probably put a lot of development money into their video player, but they'd be better off scrapping it, setting up a deal with Hulu to host their shows, and embedding Hulu into their site. That was they'd still get ad traffic from ABC.com. Hulu is everything that's good and right about legitimate internet television. They even direct you to other sites when they don't have the show you want.
Go search for "Lost" on Hulu. It'll bring up the entire catalog of Lost episodes. Click on one, and it takes you to that episode on ABC.com It's actually an easier way to find the episode you want than navigating ABC's site directly.
As Brian said, Hulu FTW.
Holy cr@p. How stupid is this?!? Why doesn't the show continue after the 30 second break!!!?
What jackbag decided that you have to click a button to continue?
I swear to !@ck as I write this I'm downloading the entire lost series to watch without commercials and I'm not sorry about it.
It's for the same reason that they think what they're doing is right that they don't understand they are losing viewers/revenue for their advertisers. Stupid, sooooooooo stupid.
Yes, Yes, Yes. And it locks all your browsers up while it loads.
Actually I was able to set auto continue in the settings of the ABC player. Now the player continues after an ad without me clicking the stupid button. I guess ABC has been reading our complaints
Suc azz player wont let me view in full screen. I have a custom computer built for streaming video and it rocks. The whole ABC player is a piece of junk, and freezes when trying to move into Full screen, causing me to have to reboot. The ABC site is also retarded. There are so many other streaming sites that work perfectly. Its a perfect example of why the US is doomed. We have lost it, whatever it is, and now are at the mercy of morons.
abc.com has the worst player . I have issue with the fullscreen. When I'm on it, when the ads come up it freeze the player that sucks.
The ABC player is horrendous. Completely unnecessary pop up window, slow loading time, have to click after ads to make the video resume, and worst of all fullscreen DOESN'T WORK! Having to watch LOST in a tiny "HD" window on my 22" monitor is maddening. What a piece of crap.
I found this page by googling "abc player fullscreen bug" to see if this problem is fixable.
at least you guys can get it to play. I tried every hint, tip, trick and instruction I could find. The only thing that happened was I got browserjacked
OMG AWESOME. This is soo true. I had to google "abc video player sucks" to try to see anybody else who knew this. Add, randomly locks up so you have to reload and watch more unnecessary commercials to your list of why they suck :)
OH add locking up any browser window you have open while it loads the player initially
It just plain blows... Their old player was perfectly fine! I worked with all OS's and no one was complaining. Now unless you run Windows XP/Vista or OS X 10.3.xx your not able to view any of the episodes. Nice way to limit viewers for your advertisers ABC! What idiot thought of this stupid idea in this day and age of not creating a player that's OS agnostic?
I've heard nothing good about this viewer so hopefully it gets canned soon. ABC listen to your viewers, before your advertisers DO! I'm sure they'd like to know where we ARE watching video content.
I totally agree with these comments... ABC needs to get their act together with this video player. The screen locks when switching to full screen, you are forced to click after commercials (what the hell is that all about!?!?) Does anyone know who to write to at ABC to voice our concerns... They need to know how badly their video player SUCKS !!!!
I also have no ethical dilemma pirating Lost. I mean what is the alternative?, going insane with abc.com HULU RULES!
Greedy abc ... really greedy, why can't you just stream the videos instead of hijacking our computer to add you adware and keep track of our browsing
I used to be able to watch abc videos with no problem until the upgrade from hell. now i sporadically get video, it freezes on the upbload and stalls during play.
I was pissed about having to install Yet Another Plugin, but it installed quickly and works fine, full screen and all. No hangs, no re-boots. Having to click Continue after the commercial is lame, but it gives you time to get back from the bathroom.
LOL... love the com about click-time potty breaks. I never watch full shows without a break - so I'm good with that. The thing works okay with FF3.5/imac - screen size, et cetera. But I would never install that thing on my pc (xp-sp3) despite the 3ghz duo/4mb and my 'ware protection. In fact, I never watch vids on pc. Don't even have itunes installed on it anymore. Not worth the bloody hassle. Wanna play games? Get a pc. Want to play media? Get an imac. Save your hair.
ABC, ESPN, Disney. Puke!
Video always plays grainy too.
Unbelievable that is was started in late January and we are STILL experiencing the same issues.... Talk about deaf ears!
ABC sucks in general... The web content is ridiculous. They don't utilize HULU, and they don't have any of their shows available on-demand with Comcast or any other cable provider. NBC is in the sh*tter and they still ahev enough business sense to make their shows AVAILABLE. Tards. Luckily I have a friend who buys every DVD of practically every show out there just because he's weird... I'll borrow the new seasons of Grey's and Lost from him.... That way I don't give this idiotic network a cent of my money by purchashing DVDs from them, nor do I have to crash my system with their horrid website. Time for some new IT/web developers ABC!
I watched a couple of lost episodes on abc.com - then again, later, I was unable whereas they said I needed to download the "plug-in" and that didn't work. Also, their website causes problems to my brand new computer with XP. All of their other crazy-insane crap works well, though!
Originally, abc bailed from dishnetwork...and I could careless actually.
My computer is old but I can watch video from every other network just fine. ABC video stutters and the audio stops every 2 seconds for about half a second. The stuttering audio is more annoying that the low FPS of the video.
where are these settings? I can't find them! ahhhhhh!
I watched the episodes on their old player just fine....this new abc player really blows.. I hope the advertisers who are on ABC hear about this.
Lost is a legend and it isnt even over yet. Fix the player.
I used to watch ABCnews.com and their web videos. No more. ABC freezes, jerks, is out of sync with audio, in a word, They SUCK. I will not log onto ABC again.
February 5, 2010.
ABC still sucks. They are the only Player on the Internet, except Aljezera, that still freezes on broadband. Get a life ABC News.
Abc player is soooooooooo frustrating!!!!! It must be dropping at least 50% of the frame rate. Watching dancing with the stars every dance is stutter step. PLEASE fix this P>O>S! I can't get it on antenna and cable Sucks!
Piece of garbage - this player. Buffers 5 or 6 times per segment for about 3 min each time.
Furthermore, it just crashed my browser. I'm seriously considering piracy at this point.
There's a reason why ABC lags behind NBC and CBS in popular sentiment... they're probably going to lose out to FOX soon as well. Terrible execs making terrible decisions, trickling down to their retard mandate to push a crappy video player that doesn't work properly. What a farce.
Beyond the stuttering video, the sheer number of ads is outrageous! Try watching a 30 second news clip and you're forced to watch a 60 second commercial. EVERYTIME. Abcnews.com blows on so many levels. Won't be going there again for news or entertainment.
Their player still sucks. Trying to watch "This Week" and it's losing the buffer every 25-30 seconds. ABCFAIL!!!
YEAH TAHT SHIT SUCKS>..... u have to fullscreen after every commercial tahts stupid crap
Well, it is 2011 and abc.com still sucks. Their page will not open. It goes whites and stays that way forever. I would not advertise on abc.com because you will not get your money's worth 'cause it don't work!
the ads.. you gotta be kidding me. if you try and fastforward to somewhere to see where you left off, you need to literally wait for 3 minutes of ads. shove it...
Four years later it STILL sucks, video freezes while sound continues, or it locks up completely, not just the player, even the site itself locks up. IE9, Firefox, doesn't matter. ABC website and player suck!
What does "limited commercial interruption" actualy mean to the pencil-dicked idiots at ABC.com. They want to force 2 minutes of same, sad, silly "Old Navy" crap over-and-over-and-over for each 30 seconds of show. I'll just TORRENT the shows.
All I get is a pop-up telling me to down load adobe flash player that is already on my computer. The real morons are the advertisers. I can't see the ads or anything else
