SNL: Justin Timberlake was Awesome

Posted by Double M

Justin Timberlake hosted SNL for the 3rd time this past weekend. It may have been the best first half of an episode SNL has produced in a long time.

Just to get it out of the way - in case you haven't seen it yet - here is the Timberlake/Samberg "Dick in a Box" follow-up called Motherlover.

That was very well done and about the best you could have asked for all-things-considered. I'm just excited that they mixed in a new song (one not on the Lonely Island cd). No more needs to be said since everyone else on the mist has already talked about it.

There were, of course, other skits on the episode. My personal favorite was a skit called "Immigrant Tale" where some immigrants were talking about what they want their great-great-great-grandkids to do. A Timberlake has an awesome vision of what their decedent will do including an awesome Britney joke.

Shorty's favorite skit was the one that shows the true talent of Timberlake. In a skit called "Surgery Center," Timberlake covers a bunch of pop hits with commercials for his surgery center. He also dances. While this skit may not hold up in 10 years (or even 10 weeks), it is really well done and I think you'll enjoy it.

That's about it for the great stuff. There were a few other filler skits that were funny and the opening monologue was pretty good. Ultimately, I didn't ever say, "man, this skit sucks" until the Weekend Update and if you can get to the half-way mark like that, you've got to be pretty happy with the episode.

Also, I usually don't embed musical performances, but for some reason Hulu included Ciara's performance of Love & Sex & Magic featuring Justin Timberlake. Fair warning, this should probably have the NSFW tag depending on how cool your place of employment is.
