Now I Know Who I Should Have Picked in the Dinosaur Draft

I have no idea where this is from - it was just sent to me - but it made me laugh. It is an animated gif so make sure you look at it somewhere that can display them.

10 Reasons Why Fail Blog Sucks

Posted by Double M

I'm getting right to the point - the title should make it self explanatory.

1) Ross had to make Fail Blog Fails - If you remember, Ross wrote a post a few weeks ago complaining about this, so he made Fail Blog Fails so anyone that uses feed readers wouldn't have to go to fail blog to see the usually not funny videos.

2) They preroll on their own videos with an ad for their own site - I never watched the videos before, so Ross' blog was good for a few days, but failblog decided to add an annoying preroll and title slide before the videos they downloaded somewhere else from Youtube. Here's an example.

3) They get duped by photoshopped/fake/staged pics - It isn't a fail if the photo was fake to begin with! See this example - funny, but not a fail. Just wait until they find Church Sign Generator and they make up post after post with pop-culture sayings on church signs.

4) They repost old jokes as their own - So now failblog has become the Carlos Mencia of blogs. See: Superman comic "fail"

5) Their website address is Failblog.org - Why is that so bad? They don't own failblog.com! Why? Why .org? We even own the .com and we are just doing this for fun. They are part of the Cheezeburger networks (which, to their credit, makes some awesome LOLCAT/LOLDOG pics) - so they are out to make cash. Why no .com?

6) Their website design is dogshit - Look, IR is nothing to be proud of (although a new design is on the way sometime), but this is just a hobby for most of us (for Wheezy its something he does when he is procrastinating from real life). Everything done here is done in the moments of free time we squeeze out of our life. The people that run failblog must make at least some money because they are part of a network and have ads run on their site. You'd think that with 9 sites in the network they'd find a way to make the site (and the others in the network for that matter) more usable.

7) Graph Jam sucks - This doesn't really pertain to failblog (although Graph Jam is in the network), but I wrote 10 in the title and I needed one extra reason. Plus nine doesn't sound nearly as good as 10.

8) Just because you find something funny on the mist doesn't mean you have to post it - The picture below was posted. This picture isn't a FAIL or a WIN, its just funny/awesome. But because they wanted to post it, it has to get classified, and it gets a FAIL? There is a genius advertising person out there somewhere that needs a huge pat on the back for getting this ad out in the real world (or there is someone that is funny with photoshop).

9) I had to write sucks in the title - You know what word would have gone great in the title? Fails. Unfortunately, I couldn't write Fail Blog Fails because Ross already used that. And he had to do this because the failblog sucks a lot apparently. Fortunately for me (and you, I guess), this will be the last time you hear me write about failblog.

10) They've ruined the funniness of FAIL pictures - It used to be when you saw a great FAIL picture you laughed. Now you just say "oh" because it is just another picture. They've taken something funny and found a way for me to not laugh at it, just like they are Keenan Thompson and FAIL is SNL. Remember this? We used to laugh at things like this:

So, in conclusion, Fail Blog is a mixture of Keenan Thompson and Carlos Mencia. Here's another thing all three have in common: while they may have funny moments here or there - I won't see it because I'm not watching.

Drunk Animals

I feel nothing more needs to be said about this clip, except that I found it on TYWKIWDBI.  That blog finds a ton of good stuff.  Definitely worth adding to your reader.

Have a great weekend, now go party like an animal.

Check out the Streamys

Posted by Ross

As you all must be painfully aware, this blog loves things that can stream on the internet.  Aside from our staple youtube videos, we've also brought you things like Dr. Horrible, The Guild and Legend of Neil.  All these shows happen to be nominated for Streamys.  (Yes, they all have Felicia Day as well).  If you're like me, you were unaware of the Streamys until just recently.  Well, it's an award show "to recognize outstanding achievement for shows produced originally for broadband distribution."  I loathe awards shows like the Oscars and the Grammys, but I can respect this because it's supporting a format with a much lower barrier to entry in a much more open format.  Check out the video for Viewer's Choice (embedded below, and still open for voting) and the other nominees.  You might find a new show worth watching.  The award show can be watched live, tomorrow, at 7:30 PM Pacific Time.

Tyson Fury has an Awesome Boxing Name...

Posted by Double M

...but apparently he's lacking in the skills department.

That's just poor form.

You know, there's only 3 ways to make that video better: 1) Put better music behind it, 2) Replay it several times, or 3) Overlay Street Fighter noises over the top of it. Fortunately, someone came through with one of the suggestions (from a different angle!).

Now, someone get popping on that Street Fighter remix.

I'm not sure how that made it on TV. Who cleared that video? These are the kind of ad execs I wish we could have had visit my classes in college.

Statler and Waldorf Don't Like Segel or Fallon

Posted by Royalcow

As a bonus to today's I Love You, Man review, I thought I would share this video of Jason Segel talking about and being heckled by muppets.

Why I Liked I Love You, Man

Posted by Royalcow

It is 80 degrees in Austin in March, which means its almost time for 100 degree days in June. I'm not really looking forward to that part as much, but I do love the summer movie season. It seems to have started early this year since there are quite a few movies out/coming out that I am looking forward to in the next couple of months. One such movie is I Love You, Man. Here is the Red Band trailer for you, so be warned, some NSFW audio.

There was a premier for this movie at SXSW this year and I had somehow hoped that I could warrant an invite without really doing anything, which of course didn't happen, but I had heard some good things from that showing. It also is sitting at 81% on Rotten Tomatoes right now. So what were my expectations? I really only expected this movie to be Jason Segel and Paul Rudd being funny, which this movie delivered very well.

The plot is a bit predictable, but what was a pleasant surprise was the supporting cast. Rashida Jones (Karen from The Office) was great in her role, but the supporting cast standouts would have to go to Andy Samburg, who suprised me by playing a character that isn't one of his Lonely Island characters, and Jon Favreau, who plays the perfect asshole. Oh and Jaime Pressly is hot (duh).

I would certainly recommend seeing this. It's good for the date night and for those of you guys in bromances out there. I'm looking at you MM and Wheezy. Oh and be sure to stay for the credits since there is actually some crap during credits on this movie.

UK Geography Explained

Posted by MajorLB

In response to this article a coworker of mine (who wishes to remain nameless since he/she is a pansy and afraid of HR) sent around this picture as a twisted defense of his country. Click to read (it's well worth it).

I've never had a firm grasp of the difference between the different regions (Scotland, Wales) of the UK, so I'm glad someone finally spelled it out for me. Now you too can pretend to have knowledge about areas in the UK.

P.S. Waitress - it's in Europe and pronounced "U-K", not "uk". There is no entity called "uk" that dispenses passports.

Gobstopper: The Movie

You wouldn't know it from the title of this post but this isn't an After Dark post here on Immediate Regret. It has been a bit of a slow week here with MM having a baby and all, but I thought I would share this video with you. It is another Funny or Die exclusive video that is really good. I have to echo Wheezy when I say it is amazing that they are getting such big name actors for these little shorts.

Name the actors in the comments! I'll start: Christopher Lloyd.

After Dark: Everything except the sex

Posted by MajorLB

I like to follow up a sentimental post with one you might not want to watch at work. :)

A while back Royalcow posted a video with an IR favorite actor, Nathan Fillion. He mentioned it's a series (PG Porn) by James Gunn (writer, producer, ex-husband of Jenna Fischer, brother of Sean Gunn, and actor) and now I'm reminded you by embedding two more.

First up stars his brother Sean, Craig Robinson, some girls, and a van. This one made me laugh more than once - mostly when Craig Robinson keeps a straight face.

The next one has James Gunn himself as a mechanic.

For the unenlightened, see that After Dark prefix in the title of the post? That means that this is
video is probably NSFW. While I (I can't speak for the other authors) won't post any nudity (without good and just cause), occasionally it can get borderline.

Anyway, here's an awesome beer commercial.

Mmmm, fupa.

Totally Awesome Badass Death Scenes [Part 1]

Posted by Double M

If you've been reading my stuff for a while, you know that I love cheesy death scenes in movies. Awful horror movie kills are ok, but the best kinds are atrocious/comical action movie death scenes. Want an example? Here's my favorite from a movie called Shark Attack 3: Megalodon.

Well, there's plenty more of them out there and I want to bring a couple to you in a new (sporadic) posting series I like to call Totally Awesome Badass Death Scenes. And what better day to start this on than Friday the 13th.

Since, I've already dropped one on you, here's a second from a movie called Hard Ticket to Hawaii.

I hope you enjoy these as much as I do.

Have a good weekend.

Double M in Real Life

Posted by Double M

As most of you know, I don't really use this venue to talk about my real life. You may catch a sentence or two about me traveling or what video game I'm currently playing, but for the most part you don't hear about me. But this post is about me. So, for those of you that don't know me or don't want to know more about me, feel free to skip this one.

Anyway, if you don't know my lady friend (aka, my wife, aka Shorty) and I will be having a little one within the next 72 hours or so. Because having a kid isn't enough, we will also be closing on a house in that time frame. I'm trying to find a third big life change that we can force to happen within the next 100 hours but all I can think of is things that I don't want to happen, so we'll just stick with those two unless you have any suggestions.

So, if you follow me on Twitter (everyone is going there these days...), you'll get sporadic updates on my life, but if you want some visual evidence then check out my photostream or you can subscribe at:

This will give you a first-hand look at what is going on in my life.

For instance, you'll see a sweet pic like this:

That's my 6-day beard growth from last week. Sadly, the wife said I had to shave it and the molestache. Here was my justification for it: I have been to a lot of weddings over the past 3 years. Every wedding has a wedding video with the bride & groom featuring newborn photos of them with their dad. And what do all the dads across all the videos have in common? They all have beards and mustaches (that's my favorite Mustache Wednesday post btw, because that guy is badass). So, I figured I should have a beard/mustache for my first pic with the little Double M.

Sadly, Shorty told me this wasn't going to fly (and in a moment of pregnancy craziness exasperation she actually tried to shave my face overnight), so I trimmed it back. Thoughts?

Anyway, follow that if you want pics of the house/baby/whatever else happens that I decide to capture with my camera and publish.

Halftime Interviews: Fail vs. Not Fail

Posted by Double M

If you don't already know, I'm a huge San Antonio Spurs fan and every once in a while my fanhood intersects with my writing ramblings on this site. In any case, last weekend the Spurs were on TV and this halftime interview happened.

That may be the worst halftime interview ever. I'm fairly certain that chick was drunk or British. Even Mike Tirico was like "WTF just happened there?". Where was Awful Announcing on this?

Look, I'm sure its not easy being a sideline reporter, but you have to know how to get the best out of your interview subject. Here's an example of a reporter that knows how to get the best out of his interview subject.

That interview is genius, not because of the question but because he squeezed a brilliant 30 seconds out of two questions.

Any excuse to post that video is a good excuse.

Immediate Regret Draft: TV Stations

Since Ben never ponied up on losing the last draft, we decided to abandon guest drafters for the time being.  Thanks for ruining everyone's fun Ben.  This time around it looks like the punishment for losing may be to see Street Fighter or the Jonas Brothers movie.  Either way I'm glad I'm not in this draft.  Without further ado, the results of the draft.

Round 1

D Wheezy:
I pick FOX.

I know what you're thinking. "But Wheezy. FOX canceled your most beloved show of all time, "Arrested Development". How can you possible choose those evil hate mongers?"
Yeah, I know. They also canceled "Firefly" before its prime. Not to mention the aberration to comedy that was MadTV and the deluge of reality tv and American Idol reruns (Oh wait, those are new episodes?). And although they aren't currently my most watched channel (I guess that would be NBC at the moment), they brought to me my most enjoyed show all time.

Whether America screwed it up or Fox did, Arrested Development is the greatest show ever made, and FOX gave it a shot. So I have to go with FOX.  And before you say "Jeez Wheez, basing your pick for a network on one show seems kinda small minded." - Let me remind you of a few other FOX gems.
  • Firefly
  • The Adventures of Brisco County Jr.
  • In Living Color
  • The Critic
  • Family Guy (Seasons 1-3)
Oh, and lets not forget - 24 and The Simpsons.

FOX has the guts to try out new things and push the boundaries. And although they can at times be quick to cancel something before it hits its stride, at least they're trying. Better to have loved and lost than to have to watch "According to Jim."

Double M:
For my first pick of the 1st round, I'm taking NBC.

30 Rock, The Office, Friday Night Lights, SNL, Heroes (which I hear is good again), some people even like Law & Order (all 8 flavors), and Sunday Night Football which is a godsend on Sunday nights. I also like Conan. Deal or No Deal can be a pretty sweet DVR'd drinking game. I probably spend more time with NBC than any other major network, and for good reason.

Plus, don't forget that NBC is behind Hulu which may be one of the greatest gifts to the intermist (besides porn). All-in-all, NBC is the most complete channel both on TV and on the webernets right now. Plus, this happened there:

Major LB:
For my first pick I choose USA.  Not only can I catch it on hulu, but I can watch it from 6am-5am except when the wrestling stuff comes one (5-6am is paid programming). 7 days a week. A little Chuck Norris in the morning, some Law and Order reruns, throw in some House, an afternoon movie (or two on the weekends), round it out with the original programming (Monk, Burn Notice, In Plain Sight, Psych) during primetime. I can DVR, hulu, or netflix any regular programming I want to watch, but USA is my go-to station for when I just want to sit down and watch TV unplanned to veg out or while I'm doing something more productive.

Royalcow:
My pick for the first round has to be Comedy Central. I really don't know how I could have made it through the past 8 years without Jon Stewart. I think Stewart and Colbert are enough reason in themselves to warrant the pick, but they also have South Park, Reno 911 and had the Chappelle Show and Mystery Science Theater 3000. I don't know about LB but I tend to find myself watching whatever crappy comedy movie that they have playing more than anything else. Plus the absence of censorship on the Secret Stash is very refreshing.

Round 2

Royalcow:
For the first pick of the second round I'm going with ABC. I know that they don't have a great system for watching their shows online, but I have to make the pick anyway. My main reason is LOST, which is one of the best shows on the air, and for picking up Scrubs. But you can't forget about the shows that have come and gone. Can't forget all of TGIF, Full House, Family Matters, Perfect Strangers, Spin City, Bewitched (which mostly I watched on Nick at Nite, but originally aired on ABC), Doogie Howser MD, Alias, Batman, MacGyver. I could go on and on.

Major LB:
I feel like trying to make this pick was like asking which bear is best. I have a feeling that all the runnerups for this pick will get picked by someone. Rounding out my selection I choose HBO for pretty much the opposite reason as I picked USA. This is not a station taht I usually just flip on to watch (in fact I don't even get the channel). This is instead a network that produces some phenomenal original programming that I order on Netflix and devour an entire season in a weekend. Do I really have to list them? The Wire, Sopranos, Rome, True Blood, Big Love, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Entourage, Da Ali G Show, Flight of the Conchords and probably more.  Video Evidence.

Double M:
For my second pick, I'll take ESPN. I'll be honest, if there is nothing on TV, I will usually switch to ESPN. Whether its a decent NBA game, Monday Night Football, a crappy college bowl game, some crazy bowling, or SportsCenter, ESPN is the place to go if you want sports and TV. And I, along with a lot of other people, love sports.

D Wheezy:
For my next pick in the TV Network Draft, I'm going with Showtime.

Let's face it. Showtime is the less pompous, at many times better version of HBO. HBO does have great programming, to be sure. But for some reason I feel like the HBO execs don't even consider Showtime a serious competitor - like their more on the level of HBO's lesser sibling Cinemax. But Showtime is coming up big. They've got some really great original programming like Weeds, Dexter,  and Californication currently in production, and they've had successes in the past. However their still not too full of themselves to make stuff like "Debbie Does Dallas... Again." (not exactly what you're thinking, but pretty close.)

Not only that - as I understand it Showtime was the one channel to offer Arrested Development a deal when FOX was dumping them. And for that, I give them my eternal gratitude.

Round 3

D Wheezy:
And finally, I pick The Food Network.

Let's face it, who doesn't like watching people cook food. And not only that, it's educational! I'm not sure if you're aware of this, but I'm a big fan of Rachel Ray.... 's recipes. Their easy to cook, relatively cheap, and delicious. And that's only one of the myriad of shows that help poor schmucks like me get past Lipton Noodles and canned tuna.

If you find yourself eating a lot of the same stuff, you can quickly and easily become an impressive chef by watching a little Food Network. Ask any of my old Austin Roommates.

Double M:
This last pick is the hardest pick. But I've decided to go with VH1.

I'm going to be honest, there is not a lot of TV on VH1 that anyone should be proud of watch. Flavor of Love(click that link and watch that compelling TV, seriously) Rock of Love, I Love Money, Charm School, Tool Academy... the list goes on and on. But here's the thing. If there is nothing on TV, I guarantee you that you could switch to VH1 and burn 4-8 hours watching a marathon of any of those shows. They are so full of train wrecks that it is literally impossible to change the channel. Impossible.  And unlike the idiots on The Hills/Laguna Beach/Real World, these people know they are derkas and are there purely for the money - which makes the shows even better to watch. Side note: VH1 is also the only music channel that still plays music videos occasionally which is pretty good

Major LB:
In a very similar vein to DoubleM, I choose Bravo for their reality tv. As much as VH1 provides some valuable entertainment moments, Bravo provides reality TV that I can talk about in public: Top Chef and Project Runway. I also give props to Bravo for being one if the first networks to have a reality show featuring homosexuals (Queer Eye and now Work Out) and I think Queer Eye for the Straight Guy started the whole makeover genre that is now all over TLC. I also have to concede that whoever sets up programming had to have some crazy ideas that allowed them to think that giving Paula Abdul a show was a good idea, or maybe even genius.

Royalcow:
I had trouble with my last pick. Initially I was going to go with the SciFi network but I was going with that only because of Battlestar Galactica. Next to Lost it is the best show on TV, and I think has given a lot of good press to the channel. But thinking about it more I do seem to remember seeing some wrestler fight a poorly animated hydra and decided that one show that is about to end is not a reason to pick SciFi no matter how good the show is. So I am going with Discovery Channel.

The Discovery Channel has always had a lot of shows that I enjoyed. It was the precursor to the History channel and the Military channel and always seems to have good stuff on it. Currently I'm obsessed with Man vs Wild (since Les Stroud is a whiny bitch), and Mythbusters is good as well. You can't beat Mike Row in Dirty Jobs. Planet Earth. There is nearly always something good to watch on it.

Recap:

D Wheezy:

Double M:

So go vote?  Whose house would you want to go to if every tv could only get three channels?

Want to Look Like a Huge Douche and Be Creepy? Get a Silver Sonic XL Get the Sliver Sonic

Posted by Double M

When I fly, I never look at SkyMall. This is mainly because I have enough other stuff to occupy me on planes that I don't need to waste my time. But the last time I flew I didn't have a book, my iPod's battery died, and my DS quit working. Plus I had just downed a Red Bull a few hours earlier and it hadn't completely worn off yet. This led to a very boring flight which led to me picking up SkyMall which led to me discovering this pretty sweet device called the Silver Sonic XL.

What is the Silver Sonic XL you ask? Well, for starters it is a poor-man's hearing aid. According to their website, it amplifies sound from up to 90ft away! But you want to know the best part? It looks like a bluetooth headset!

I know you're really excited right now, so here's a video to get you even more pumped up.

Yes, only with the Silver Sonic XL can you get all the douchebaginess of wearing a bluetooth headset cell phone ear adapter when you're not on the phone and the creepiness of a stalker/peeper all for $20. As an added bonus, it looks like you are also able to randomly hear things all-around you with the added benefit of honing in on exactly what you want to hear. This sounds like the best thing ever*.

Now that I've seen this, here's what I really want to find: someone wearing a Super Sonic XL on one side and a bluetooth headset on the other.

* In no way is this the best thing ever.

Why I Liked the Watchmen

Posted by Royalcow

It is pretty obvious that I have been anticipating the Watchmen for some time now, and last weekend it finally opened. I had found the opening credits to embed for this post, but apparently Warner Bros/Fox hate free publicity so it was pulled. For consistency sake here is the preview again. However, since I have linked the trailer previously I will just jump right in.

Watchmen opened pretty successfully with $55.7 Million for the opening weekend. This ranks in the top 10 opening weekends for any R-rated movie (courtesy of Yahoo). I would think that a large majority of this take would be midnight/opening day shows due to the large amount of interest from the source material. This is pretty impressive if you take into account that due to its long running time theaters can't show the movie as often.

What are my thoughts you ask? Well, personally I liked the movie. I thought it was well done and really imaged the comic book well. I didn't even notice the length of the movie. I felt engaged and enjoyed the movie (being at the Draft House helped with that of course). For those that care they did change the ending, but I have talked with a few people who actually liked the ending better, myself included.

Now I could nitpick the difference between the movie and the comic, but largely I don't think it makes that much difference. The only thing that I thought could have been better is how they handled "present day" Sally Jupiter. They really should have just cast an older woman that kinda looks like Carla Gugino instead of the makeup. It was pretty distracting and took me out of the movie a bit. Of course she looked great for the young Silk Specter (the first one) (see right).

I think the standout of the movie has to go to Jackie Earle Haley for Rorschach. He really did the role justice. His voice was exactly how I imagined it when reading the comic and the addition of the CG mask, really filled the character out. Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Patrick Wilson also deserves mentioning for The Comedian and Nite Owl (the second one).

I would certainly recommend seeing the movie. It's a great imaging of an awesome comic, the action scenes are brutal, and Dr. Manhattan and Malin Akerman naked (something for everyone). What's not to like? Well, besides the lack of crap after credits.

So, what did you guys think?

NBA Commercial Blitz Part 3

Posted by Double M

I've been waiting to post my third installment of NBA commercials because I was waiting on an awesome Spurs commercial I saw over Christmas when I was in Austin. Someone finally put it on YouTube last week which meant that I could finally post these videos.

The first commercial wasn't on TV very much. I'm not sure why because it always made me laugh. The commercial is from Right Guard Xtreme and is a message from a picture of Chris Paul.

That's not Chris Paul's voice but that commercial is still pretty funny. I have a feeling that this commercial got pulled because Chris Paul is a douche, but that's just my opinion and probably not really true.

The second commercial is a local commercial in the Austin/San Antonio area. It is a grocery store commercial that features some players doing yoga. I have a feeling that I only enjoy this commercial because I'm a Spurs fan but either way watching the fake yoga poses made me laugh.

The last commercial is part of a larger ESPN Mini tour bus commercial set. They are all decently funny but the best one definitely features LeBron James singing a song that you would not expect him to sing

Things to try this Weekend: Cup Stacking the Drinking Game

Posted by Double M

A few months ago, a friend told me about a ridiculous drinking game they would play to pass the time between beer pong games. It involved drinking and cup stacking. Before I tell you how to do it, here's a video to get you psyched up.

See, cup stacking is good for you!

Ok, here's the rules:

- Compete solo or in a team of 2
- Have 6 cups per person/team

How you play:

1) Spread 2 beers across 6 cups
2) Chug the beers as fast as possible
3) Stack the 6 cups into a 3-2-1 pyramid
4) Collapse the 6 cups into 1 stack of six cups

Fastest person/team to complete this wins.

Try adding the number of cups to increase the difficulty.

Warning: You will probably consume a lot of alcohol very quickly playing this game.

Wolverine Looks Bad Ass

I don't know if you're going to see Watchmen today (if you don't you should make time to go see it soon), but there's another comic book movie that I'm excited to see - X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

Yes, I know that the last X-Men movie may not have been the best, but no matter what your feelings towards that movie were, I think the latest trailer for Wolverine might change your mind.

Pretty bad ass right? Right.

But Wolverine doesn't come out this weekend so you should make sure to go see Watchmen. Either way, here's an awesome video featuring what could be considered the two main characters from the movies.

ThruYOU - Productivity Killer

Posted by Royalcow

Hey there Hop Ons. As you know we are huge fans of internet videos and music. If you are following me on Twitter you might have seen this earlier this morning, but I thought I needed to post it and share with a slightly larger audience. There's no embedding (that I could find) so click through to the link below. You will not regret it.
